Fietsers Paradise

We had an easy ride through the industrial areas from Liege in Belgium to Maastricht in the Netherlands on the bike paths along the river Meuse. The river's name changes to Maas on entering The Netherlands and the scenery was more appealing. Maastricht greeted us with bicycles and bicycle lanes everywhere.

The Netherlands has more bicycles than people and more bike paths than roads. Signs that made sense and helped us on our way were the rule rather than the exception. The only thing missing were metering lights to regulate riders joining the bike paths....

Bicycles of every size and description abound.

As well as some very small and unusual cars.

We settled in to our hotel and made our plans to park our bike Friday Tandem for a few days.  Then took a train ride to Alkmaar north of Amsterdam.

A sailors wish..May the wind always be on your back.

We visited with our friends there enjoying a trip to the beach and a baroque concert in one of the local churches before returning to Maastricht to continue our ride.
